Troy Concludes Successful Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Troy Trojans women's tennis program completed a very successful weekend at the Southern Miss Fall Classic, sweeping their three doubles matches on Sunday. With their victories on Sunday, the Trojans improved to 22-4 overall in the tournament with just losses in singles play and two in doubles play in 26 total matches.
Each doubles team faced a different university in each of their matches on Sunday, with the team of Mirte DeBakker and Stephanie Vieria defeating Tennessee Tech's Kelly Holtzhausen and Katie Barnhill, 8-4. The duo of DeBakker and Vieria also defeated Southeastern Louisiana's Iva Velkovska and Morgane Dadot, 8-2. The final match of the tournament for the Trojans ended in fine fashion, when the team of Rawia Elsisi and Gabby Viega shutout Nicholls State's Florina Nosca and Sanja Stanjcic, 8-0.
The trio of victories highlighted the successful weekend for the Trojans in doubles action, as Troy went 9-2 in their 11 matches over the weekend. The two losses by the Trojans were the fewest of any team involved in the tournament in Hattiesburg.
Not only did the Trojans fare well in doubles, but they also finished off the tournament strong in singles play on Saturday. On the final day of singles, the Trojans went 6-0 in their singles matches, bringing their overall singles record in the tournament to an astounding 13-2. The only two losses for the Trojans in singles play came on the opening day of the tournament and each went to three sets.
