Saturday's action at the USTA Tennis Classic of Troy started with the singles semi-finals, and the action ended with the doubles championship. Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears claimed the doubles championship when they defeated Angela Haynes and Sunitha Rao.
The pair enjoyed their time in the Troy Classic, and they are proud to have claimed the doubles title.
“We had some close matches through the tournament,” Kops-Jones said. “We played pretty solid through the week. It feels good to play well and win. This tournament was great. The director was really nice, and was always asking us if we needed anything.”
Spears agreed and said their chemistry played a big part in their success on the court.
“We have played seven or eight tournaments together,” Spears said. “We're really good friends, and I think that plays a big part of it. Definitely the more you play with someone a lot you know where they are moving. It feels good to win here. The courts are very nice, and it's always good to win.”
The singles championship match is set for 1 p.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex in Troy.
