Tennis Continues Play In Two States

The Troy Trojans tennis programs continue play in two different states this weekend, with the men in Alabama and the women in Georgia.
In Athens, Ga., on the campus of the University of Georgia, the women are continuing their competition in the ITA South Regionals. Stephanie Viera remains the only Trojan remaining in the tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals in the "B" Flight of singles play. Viera defeated Lauren Pfeiffer of Florida Gulf Coast, 6-0, 7-0 in the Round of 16.
In the opening round of play in "A" Singles, Leonie Guijt defeated Dunja Djuranovic of Auburn, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the second round to face Anastasia Revzina of Florida - a first round winner over Central Florida's Elvi Serrot.
In other opening round action, Rawia Elsisi defeated Florida A&M's Alice Izomor, 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the second round to play Monika Dancevic of Georgia. Annabelle Bares lost her opening round match to Marrit Boonstra of Florida, 7-5, 6-4.
In the "B" Singles Round of 32, Viera defeated Fernanda Carrero of Jacksonville, 6-0, 6-2; while Gabriela Viega defeated Agatha Palider of Kennesaw State, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 16. Viega fell in the Round of 16 to Natalie Mayuk of Mississippi State, 6-4, 7-5.
Meanwhile, Andrie Meiring of Samford defeated Mirte Debakker, 6-4, 7-5 and Valeriya Makarycheva of Mississippi State defeated Caroline Jouanin, 7-6(5), 6-2 to close out the opening round of singles play.
Meanwhile, in Tuscaloosa at the Crimson Tide Fall Invitational, Mario Silva lost his quarterfinal match to South Florida's Thomas Estrada, 6-2, 6-3 in the "John Hannah" Singles Flight. In the "Johnny Musso" Singles Flight consolation bracket, Bastain Maucher advanced to the semifinals before falling to Georgia Southern's Alain Garrado, 6-2, 6-2. In the consolation bracket of the "Ken Stabler" Flight Singles, Maxime Zamora fell to Taylot Cohen of Clemson, 1-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) in the opening round.
In other singles action on Saturday, Andrey Morozov moved into the semifinals of the "Gene Stallings" Singles Championship Flight with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over KC Griffen of Memphis. He fell in his quarterfinal match to Robert Pietrucha of Clemson, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-0on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Diego Martinez fell to Oliver Reynolds of Samford, 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals of the "Bart Starr" Single Championship Flight. In the final quarterfinal match of the afternoon, Phil Janz fell to Corrado Degli Incerti of Virginia Tech, 7-6 (1), 6-3.
