Both the men's and women's tennis teams have been hampered by Mother Nature in the opening rounds of their respective tournaments, forcing the men inside and narrowing down the number of matches to be played on day one.
At the Crimson Tide Invitational, the two doubles teams in action dropped their opening round matches after being forced indoors. The team of Bastain Maucher and Mario Silva fell to Virginia Tech's Corrado Degli Incerti and Yoann Re 8-3 in the Red Doubles Flight.
In the White Doubles Flight, the team of Diego Martinez and Andrey Morozov upended UT-Chattanooga's Rick Van de Bovenkamp and Alex Butnarcuic, 8-6, to move into the second round of action. In the round of 16, the duo is scheduled to face the Southern Mississippi pair of Jan Burmeister and Andrew Poole; an 8-5 winner in the opening round. The only other doubles team in action for the Trojans, the team of Phil Janz and Maxime Zamora, fell to Samford's Carl Abalos and Carson Kadi 8-5 in the opening round.
The men actually got their singles matches underway late in the afternoon on Friday with a pair of Trojans capturing victories in their Round of 16 matches. In the 'John Hannah' Flight, Silva defeated UAB's Brian Ly in straight sets 6-2, 6-3; while in the 'Gene Stallings' Flight, Morozov defeated Van de Bovenkamp of UTC 6-2, 6-2.
Maucher and Zamora each came up short in the Round of 16 matches, falling in straight sets to Samford's Richard Welsh and UAB's Tommy Petrich respectively.

After the delay, the team of Annabelle Bares and Rawia Elsisi fell to Auburn's Whitney Chappell and Fani Chifchieva, 8-4, in the opening round. Their teammates, Mirte DeBakker and Stephanie Vieria fell to Central Florida's Kenza Belbacka and Christy Core, 8-6, in the opening round of play.
