Troy Falls to South Carolina and Clemson

SOUTH CAROLINA - The Troy University women's tennis team dropped their first two matches of the season to 30th-ranked South Carolina (7-0) and 10th-ranked Clemson (6-1).
The Trojans dropped the doubles point to South Carolina (1-0) byfalling in the number one and three positions. Although their victory did not register on the team points, the Troy team of Mirte De Bakker and Leonie Guijt defeated the team of Jelena Rajic and Natasa Vuckovic, 8-3, in the number two position. The victory was the lone victory for the Trojans on the day.
In other doubles action, Troy's Rawia El Sisi and Caroline Jounia fell to South Carolina's Suzanna Mansour and Megan McGavock 8-3 on court three; opening the match. South Carolina's ninth-ranked team of Gira Schofield and Ana Marija Zubori downed Annabelle Bares and Stephanie Vieria by the same to score to clinch the point for the Gamecocks.
Singles play did not go so well for the Trojans, dropping all six matches. The Trojans top player, 65th-ranked Bares fell to 26th-ranked Gira Schofield 6-4, 6-4 at number one; while El Sisi fell to South Carolina's 73rd-ranked Zubori 7-6, 6-0.
At number three, De Bakker fell to South Carolina's Vuckovic 6-7, 6-1, 11-9; while Viera fell to Rajic 6-3, 6-4. The final two positions saw Guijt fall to South Carolina's Jocic 8-6 at number five; while Troy's Jounia fell to Mansour 6-1, -4 at number six.
Meanwhile, the Trojans fell to 10th-ranked Clemson despite a victory by Jounia at number six over Clemson's Kathryn Gerber 6-2, 6-3. Despite the victory at number six, the Trojans dropped the other five singles matches including at number one singles where Bares fell 6-3, 6-3 to 85th-ranked Carol Salge.
At number two singles, El Sisi fell to Clemson's Estefania Balda in three sets 3-6, 6-2, 6-1; while at number three De Bakker fell to the fourth-ranked player in the nation, Ani Mijacika 7-6 (4), 6-4. The final matches in singles play saw Vieria fall to Clemson's Ina Hadziselimovic 6-2, 7-5 at number four; while Guijt fell to Clemson's Alexandra Luc 6-2, 6-3.
Troy (0-2) dropped all three doubles matches against the Tigers.
