USTA Announces Wild Card Selections

Troy, Ala.- The USTA announced their wild card entries for the 2007 USTA Classic of Troy Tournament.

They have selected Alexa Guarachi from Destin, Fla, Varuara Lepchenko, Allentown, Pa., and Mashona Washington, of Houston, Texas.

Washington was out last year due to a season ending knee injury and is not currently ranked. She was ranked as high as 50^th in the world in 2004. Washington's brother, MalVai, is well known for playing in the 1996 Wimbledon final.

Lepchenko, an immigrant of Uzbekistan, was ranked 84^th in the world in 2006 and is currently ranked 147^th. She reached the second round of the US Open in 2006.

Gurachi, 16, is ranked 101^st in the world junior's rankings and is a native of Destin, Florida. She is also one of the top ranked juniors in the United States.

Also receiving wild cards entries are American junior players Julia Boserup, Connie Hsu, Kelly Irving, Erin Stephens, Kim Couts, and Gladagiovanna D'ortona, a top ranked junior from Italy.

This is Troy's fifth year hosting the tournament and the winner will receive $50,000.

Qualifying beings Sunday at 10 a.m. and the main draw will begin Tuesday at 10 a.m. Results will be released after each day of play.
