MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Troy Trojan softball team used a two-run home run from senior Brooke Powell to get on the board first and never looked back as they defeated Western Kentucky 5-2 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference softball tournament.
The Trojans (40-19) added two more runs in the fourth inning when Rocky Paige doubled in Amanda Ragans and Powell followed suit knocking in Stacey Dwyer.
Western Kentucky (28-31) would add two runs in the top of the fifth on a Terri Ellingsworth home run.
Troy would answer back in the bottom of the fifth when Ragans would plate Heidi Johnson on a double.
Powell finished the day 2-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Ragans would finish 1-for-3 and Paige 1-for-2 with one run batted in each, respectively.
Angela Lopez (4.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 6 K, 0 BB) started on the mound for Troy and picked up her 19th win on the year as she improved her record to 19-6.
She was relieved by Heather Rush, who pitched the final 2.2 innings.
