TROY, Ala. - The Troy Trojan softball team hits the field at 1 pm on Sunday vying for their second conference championship in three years and their first as a member of the Sun Belt Conference.
The Trojans were the winners of the Atlantic Sun Conference in 2005. Troy joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2006.
After splitting with South Alabama on Saturday the Trojans are looking to take the series and the conference with a game three win.
Troy defeated South Alabama in the first game by a score of 2-0, but fell in game two 5-1.
Despite Troy's game two loss, they are still very much alive in the conference championship chase thanks to a Louisiana-Monroe walk-off victory over Louisiana Monroe.
Troy enters today half of a game behind current leader Florida Atlantic and half of a game ahead third-place team Louisiana-Lafayette.
FAU is idle, while the Ragin' Cajuns meet ULM in game three of their series.
Therefore, a Trojan victory will guarantee Troy the Sun Belt Conference regular season championship and the number one seed in the conference tournament.
Sunday will also serve as Senior Day as Troy will honor six seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
Senior Day ceremonies will begin at 1 pm with the game beginning shortly thereafter. Admission to all home softball games is free.
