The Trojans (5-7, 2-2 SBC) defeated the Pioneers (11-5, 0-1 SBC) who are the number three seed in the tournament. This is the first time in Division I men's tennis history that the Trojans have defeated a top-50 team. The match began with singles play and since the Trojans won the doubles matches were not played.
Freshman Bastian Maucher clinched the match for Troy as he defeated Timo Kielne 2-6, 6-1, 6-5 in the singles five spot.
Sophomore Guilherme Sahadi sealed the deal for the Trojans as he defeated Denver's Ravjot Dhatt 6-3, 6-3.
Also posting wins for Troy against the Pioneers were sophomore Dusan Medan and junior Bona Ung. Medan defeated Kalle Rosen 6-2, 6-3 and Ung won his match over Nejc Smole 7-5, 6-2.
The men will be back in action at 3:30 p.m. at the Sun Belt Shootout when it faces No. 2 seed and nationally ranked No. 42 Middle Tennessee.
