Trojans Split With Louisiana-Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. - Senior Brooke Powell and sophomore Heidi Johnson led the Troy softball team to a split on Saturday in a doubleheader with Louisiana-Lafayette.
Troy (36-13, 14-6 SBC) lost the first game 7-0 to the Ragin' Cajuns (38-13, 9-7 SBC) before rallying in game two for the 8-5 win.
Powell and Johnson each went 2 for 3 with two RBI in the win against the Ragin' Cajuns.
Sophomore Felicia Hammer added two more RBI while senior Amanda Ragans and junior Courtney Davis also posted one RBI each for the Trojans.
Troy hit four home runs in the game as Johnson, Davis, Hammer and Ragans each hit one out of the park.
Junior Angela Lopez took the win to improve to 17-4 on the season after taking the loss in game one. Lopez entered game two in relief for sophomore Heather Rush who allowed three runs on three hits in three innings of work. Lopez pitched four innings allowing two runs on four hits.
In game one, the Trojans were kept hitless as Cuevas pitched a no-hitter and striking out nine for the win. Cuevas improved to 24-7 for the season with her performance against the Trojans.
Although the Troy was unable to record a hit it only left three on base.
Junior Angela Lopez took the loss in the circle for Troy as she allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings of work.
The Trojans will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. to close out the series with Louisiana-Lafayette.
