Trojans Sweep Florida A&M

In game one, the Trojans (27-8) were able to get on the board early in the top of the first and take a 1-0 lead when a Heidi Johnson single up the middle scored Stacey Dwyer who had reached on a double to left field.
The Trojans were able to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth. Angie Coteat reached on a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Jessica Lyle. After an error on the Rattlers, Coteat advanced to third. The Trojans were able to take a 2-0 lead when Dwyer flied out sending Coteat across the plate.
In the top of the sixth, the Trojans were able to take a 5-0 lead when Brooke Powell connected for a three run homer over the left center wall.
Troy was able to add five more runs in the inning to make the score 10-0. That inning also saw the end of Rattler starting pitcher Destiny Gordon. Gordon dropped to 1-8 on the season.
The Rattlers (9-31) were able to get on the board in the bottom of the sixth but Troy held on a won 10-1.
Angela Lopez (10-3) was the starting and winning pitcher for the Trojans. She went six innings and gave up four hits and four walks while striking out seven.
In game two, Troy was able to take and early 2-0 on two consecutive Rattler throwing errors. Jessica Lyle scored on an error throw on the pitcher when Stacey Dwyer bunted. Dwyer made it all the way to third on the play. Dwyer then scored on an error off a Heidi Johnson hit.
Felicia Hammer made it 4-0 when she singled scoring two. Rocky Paige then scored on a sacrifice fly by Brooke Powell making the score 5-0. The Rattlers committed three errors in the inning.
In the top of the third the Trojans loaded the bases with no outs but could not get any runs.
The Rattlers then put runners at second and third and no outs in the bottom of the third. The Rattlers were able to cut the Troy lead to 5-1 when Rhianna Green flew out to center scoring Alesha Wells. Heather Rush was taken out of the game bringing in Rocky Paige.
Paige then gave up a single to Alyssa Watts who scored Nakendra Jones making the score 5-2.
Troy got on the board in the top of the seventh making the score 6-2 when Tanya McLean doubled scoring one. The Trojans added two more runs making the score 8-2 when Katie Taber sacrifice flied to center scoring two more runs. Heidi Johnson homered over the left field wall scoring two to make the Trojan lead 10-2.
Troy added three more runs making the score 13-2 when Felicia Hammer hit a three-run homer.
Heather Rush (6-2) was the starting pitcher for the Trojans. Paige came in for relief and picked up her first save of the year. Ashley Jones (5-11) was the starting pitcher for FAMU. The Trojans will be back in Sun Belt action on Saturday when they take on Western Kentucky at the Trojan softball complex for a double header. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. with the second game scheduled for around 3 p.m.
