Trojans Split With North Florida

Troy (8-4, 2-0 SBC) won the doubles point to begin the match as it swept the UNF in doubles.
In singles, freshman Caroline Jounia extended Troy's lead to two as she defeated Robin Rogers 6-3, 6-2.
Senior Nicole Shaw fell to Carolina de Melo 6-1, 6-3 to put UNF within one but the Trojans pulled away as sophomore Stephanie Vieria and senior Claudia Strauss each won their matches.
Strauss' win over Vanessa Sanchez clinched the match for Troy as she won 6-1, 5-7 and 6-2.
Sophomore Annabelle Bares won one singles 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 as she topped Catalina Castillo to improve to 11-1 on the season.
The women's team will be back in action on Friday, March 23 as it travels to Biloxi, Miss., to compete in the Southern Miss Spring Tennis Classic.
On the men's side, Bona Ung and Bastian Maucher defeated Matias Sigal and Ben Smith 8-3 posting the only win of the day for Troy (3-8) but it was not enough as the Trojans lost the doubles point.
Freshman Dusan Medan performed well for the Trojans as he fell to UNF's Javier Ferrin 6-4, 7-6 (10-8). Also playing well for Troy Ung as he lost his match to Eduardo Perreira 6-4, 7-5.
The men will back in action as it faces Southern Miss on March 28 in Hattiesburg, Miss.
