Blue Raiders Homer in Ninth to Beat Troy

After three complete scoreless innings for both teams that only saw one hit, the Trojans (16-7, 1-2 SBC) were first to get on the board. The Trojans took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Stacey Dwyer scored on a Brooke Powell single up the middle. Dwyer reached on a single and advanced to third on consecutive putouts by Middle Tennessee.
Middle Tennessee ( 13-14, 4-2) tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth when Corrie Abel scored on a single to left by Katie Mielke. Abel reached on an error and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Justine Cerda.
The Blue Raiders took a 2-1 lead in the same inning when Jessica Cline singled and scored Mielke.
The Trojans loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, and the bases full, Angie Coteat was forced out at home for the second out. Heidi Johnson then lined a shot to centerfield and what looked to be a remarkable game ending catch by Martha Davis, the ball fell out of her glove allowing Amanda Ragans and Britney Robinette who was running for Felicia Hammer to score and allow the Trojans to rally for two runs to take the lead 3-2.
With the Trojans up 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh, Middle was able to tie the game at 3-3 in the bottom portion of the inning when Corrie Abel doubled scoring Melissa Weiland who had singled and sending the game into extra innings.
With the game tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth and one out, Melissa Weiland took the pitch over the fence giving the Blue Raiders the 4-3 win.
Freshman Rocky Paige got the start for the Trojans and the no decision. Paige went 4.1 innings and only giving up two hits and no runs while striking out five.
Michelle Grinage came in and for the Trojans and allowed one unearned run. Angela Lopez (5-3) took the loss for the Trojans. Lopez went three innings, giving up seven hits and two runs while striking out two.
Lindsey Vander Lugt (9-9) picked up the win for the Blue Raiders as she went the complete game, giving up 10 hits, three runs and struck out one.
The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday when they host UAB for a double header. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Trojan Softball Complex.
