Trojans Sweep Florida A&M

TROY, Ala. ?” The Trojans swept a double header with Florida A&M on Tuesday winning 5-1 and 15-10.
In game one, Heidi Johnson went 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and Angela Lopez picked up her third win of the season pitching a full seven innings, scattering four hits and allowing only one run.
I was extremely proud with the performance of Angela Lopez on the mound today,” head coach Melanie Davis said. It was impressive in that she threw her first complete game of the year following the three arm surgeries that she had.”
Troy (11-3) was able to get on the board early in the first and take a 1-0 when Jessica Lyle scored on a Rattler throwing error.
Florida A&M (1-12) tied the game in the second when Alacia Strafford was able to steal home after an error on the Trojans.
Troy was able to retake the lead in the bottom half of the inning after a Johnson single scored Kayla Moore. Troy was able to add another run in the third when Brooke Powell connected for a home run to make the score 3-1.
Troy added their final runs of the game in the fifth when Johnson doubled to centerfield scoring Angie Coteat. Another fielding error by FAMU allowed Lyle to get on base and score Johnson to give the Trojans the 5-1 win.
In game two, Troy put up a five spot in the bottom of the first inning before having to rally to win 15-10.
Trailing 8-6, the Trojans erupted with an explosive fifth inning scoring seven runs behind home runs from Brooke Powell and Rocky Paige.
Jessica Lyle also added an RBI double in the inning.
Paige connected on another homerun in the next inning. The two-run homer gave the Trojans a 15-8 lead. FAMU scored twice in the top of the seventh, but the Trojans were able to hold on to win 15-10.
I was proud of Rocky's performance today, particularly her two home runs and four RBI in game two,” Davis said. Our hitting really performed in the clutch today and our power numbers speak for themselves.”
Stacey Dwyer went 2-for-4 in game two along with Felicia Hammer who was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
The Trojans will be in action again on Friday when they head to the Buzz Classic hosted by Georgia Tech. Troy's first game will against Radford at 2 p.m.
