Trojans Finish Second at Purple and Gold Challenge

In the championship game, Troy fell to LSU 13-0 as LSU scored nine runs in the fifth inning to take the win.
Heather Rush took the loss as she allowed seven runs on seven hits in 4.2 innings pitched.
Earlier in the day, Troy topped Southern Miss, 10-4 to advance to the championship game against LSU.
Southern Miss took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning to which Troy answered with three of its own in the bottom of the inning. Jessica Lyle singled to bring home one run and then scored on a two-run home run by Courtney Davis.
In the fourth, the score was knotted at four before the Trojans would hold Southern Miss and score six more in the game. In both the fourth and fifth Troy scored three runs to pull ahead for the win.
Davis ended the game two for three with two RBI and scored two runs. Lyle and Heidi Johnson each went two for four in the game. Johnson had three RBI and scored two runs and hit a home run for the Trojans.
Michelle Grinage posted the win for Troy as she pitched 3.2 innings allowed one hit in 13 batters faced.
Troy improved to 9-3 on the season over the weekend at the LSU Purple and Gold Challenge.
Troy will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 27 when it plays host to Florida A&M in a doubleheader set for 3 p.m. Admission to all home softball games is free.
