Troy Sweeps The Wiregrass Classic

DOTHAN, Ala.- The Troy Trojans held off a late threat by Southern Miss to win the game by a score of 3-2 and sweep the Screentech Wiregrass Baseball Classic.
Troy (3-0) faced an undefeated Southern Miss (7-1) in the final game of the tournament. The Trojans got on the board in the third inning when Brett Henry led off the inning with a single followed by a bunt single by Shohei Fujita. Pierce and Fujita advanced on a fielders choice by Ian Craze and all three runners advanced on a called balk with Fujita scoring.. Clint Robinson grounded out to first but got the RBI. Josh Dew came up next and singled getting his ninth RBI of the season.
Jeff Green (1-0) pitched five solid innings scattering two runs on four hits while striking out four.
Tim Wheeler pitched the middle innings allowing no hits and struck out two. Dew came on in the eighth and got his second save of the season.
Bobby Pierce was glad to see his team sweep the tournament.
"We played a good game today against a good team," Pierce said. "I am glad to see us play with passion and I hope they keep it up because we have a very tough weekend coming up in Mississippi with Mississippi State and Michigan."
Brett pierce had another solid game at the plate going 3-for-4. Robinson, Dew, Fujita, and Henry each had one hit.
The Trojans will have the week off before traveling to Starkville for a four game series.
