KINDER, La. -- A few bad holes for several players cost the Troy women's golf team in its season opening tournament Tuesday. The Trojans finished 11th at the McNeese State Cowgirl Spring Invite.
Overall, Troy finished at 1003 (339-327-337) , 71 shots behind tournament winner and Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama. Lamar's Therese Nilsson won medalist honors at seven-over par 223.
Charlotte Sundqvist led Troy at 26-over 246, tied for 24th. She fired rounds of 83, 77 and 82. Kaley Branton tied for 36th at 249 (85-83-81), while mid-year transfer Desirae Zine was tied for 45th at 255 (83-83-89) . Danielle Skipper finished 48th at 257 (88-84-85), while Sarah Weldon rounded out the team score at 315 (103-104-108/59th).
Alyssa Laneuvilla, another mid-year transfer, competed as an individual and finished 53rd. She shot 266 with rounds of 85, 91 and 90."I am disappointed at our finish," Head Coach Matt Terry said. "We simply had too many bad holes across the board. After two rounds, we had more birdies than South Alabama, but had a lot of double and triple bogeys, as well."
Troy now takes two weeks off before competing in the Birmingham Southern College Shootour on Feb. 26-27.
