MOBILE, Ala. -- Just two days away from its first tournament of the spring season, Troy got back on the golf course early Saturday when it visited Sun Belt Conference rival South Alabama for a head-to-head matchup. The Jaguars, one of the perennial favorites in the league, took the match 310-338.
Playing on the Jags' home course, Azalea City Golf Club, the Trojans were already at a disadvantage. South Alabama posted six scores in the 70s, while all six of Troy's players topped 80.
"It was good to get back onto the course after our winter break," Head Coach Matt Terry said."I think the early start will help us when we continue on to McNeese on Sunday. We had tough conditions today and only two of our players had ever seen the course."
Troy's tournament schedule begins Monday when it competes in the 54-hole MSU Cowgirl Invitational. Teams will play 36 holes on the opening day before an 18-hole round on Tuesday.
