Trojans Continue Winning Ways at Lion Classic

The Trojans defeated tourney host Southeastern Louisiana in the first game of the day 9-0 and later defeated Southern 1-0. Troy defeated Louisiana-Monroe in the late game 4-2.
Game 1 - Troy 9, Southeastern 0 (5 innings)
The Trojans were able to make quick work of the host Lady Lions as they won the opening game on Saturday 9-0.
The Trojans jumped out to an early 5-0 lead being the offensive production of Jessica Lyle, Courtney Davis, and Brooke Powell who each had RBI singles. Felicia Hammer also added a two-run double to help the Trojans.
Stacey Dwyer added a RBI single in the fourth inning along with a RBI from Heidi Johnson to help the Trojans to the 9-0 victory.
Winning pitcher Angela Lopez and Michelle Grinage combined to hold the Lady Lions to only four hits and a shutout.
Game 2 - Troy 1, Southern 0
The Trojans were able to win a pitcher's contest in the second game of the day by defeating Southern by a score of 1-0.
Starting pitcher Rocky Paige earned the win for the Trojans as she went five innings and only allowing five hits while striking out five and allowing no runs.
Heather Rush came in relief and only allowed two hits and preserved the shutout.
The Trojans were able to score the games only run in the bottom of the second. Brooke Powell and Felicia Hammer each singled for the Trojans. After a sacrifice bunt fielder's choice by Kayla Moore loaded the bases, Angie Coteat walked scoring Katie Kolb who pitch ran for Powell.
Game 3 - Troy 4, Louisiana-Monroe 2
Rocky Paige connected on a 3-run homer in the first inning and Courtney Davis provided a RBI double in the second inning to lead the Trojans to a 4-2 win over ULM.
Angela Lopez picked up the win for the Trojans and Michelle Grinage, Heather Rush, and Rocky Paige helped preserve the victory.
"Overall, it was a complete team effort all day and especially in the last game," head coach Melanie Davis said.
The Trojans will hit the field tomorrow at 10 a.m. as they will play for the tournament championship against Mississippi Valley State.
