Trojans Drop Thriller to Western Kentucky

“Tonight was a good college basketball game,” head coach Don Maestri said. “The game was very exciting and full of big plays. If the ball would have bounced differently, we could have won but it didn't.”
The Trojans (6-6, 0-2) were down 78-65 before Bassett hit four consecutive three pointers helping the Trojans close the gap to 82-78. Bassett added two free throws to cut the lead to 82-80
The teams would exchange blows until Bassett tied the game at 88-88 with a jumper with 58 seconds left.
Courtney Lee would then take the inbound pass and race the floor only to have senior Jarvis Acker block his shot attempt.
The Trojans were unable to corral the loose ball leaving possession with the Hilltoppers.
Lee would put WKU (8-4, 1-0) on top 90-88, with a runner in the lane with 45 seconds remaining.
Bassett would miss a jumper forcing the Trojans to foul.
Lee would make all four of his shots from the free throw line giving WKU the 94-90 win.
In the first half, the two teams combined to shoot 42 three pointers. The Hilltoppers shot an impressive 58 percent from behind the arc compared to the Trojans' 38 percent.
Tyrone Brazelton set a
The Hilltoppers raced out to an early 8-0 lead on two consecutive three pointers from Brazelton.
Brazelton finished the first half 8-of-9 from behind the arc with 24 points.
The Trojans missed their first four shots before senior Justin Jonus hit a three at the closing the Western lead to 8-3.
The Trojans would storm back with two three pointers from Bassett and three from Maycon cutting the lead to 16-12.
On the Trojans' next two trips down the floor, Michael Vogler and Basset were both fouled during a lay-up. Both players made the shot and the free throw evening the score at 18.
Brazelton finished the game with 29 points and Lee added 17 to go along with six assists.
Bassett led all scorers with 36 points. Jonus and Jerome Odem each added nine points.
“We need a win to help get our confidence up,” Maestri said. “This is a tough league and it will not get any easier.”
The Trojans will be back in action on January 3 against
