Classic of Troy Competition Slims Down

TROY, Ala.- The $50,000 USTA Classic of Troy resumed Friday for the quarterfinals of competition.

The number four seed, Sandra Kloesel of Germany, got knocked out of the tournament by Gail Brodsky of the United States 6-0, 6-7(1), 6-3.

Stephanie DuBois of Canada proved why she is the number one seed after defeating Jelena Pandzic of Croatia 6-1, 6-3.

In doubles, the number three seeded Maria-Fernanda Alves of Brazil and Stephaine DuBois of Canada was defeated by Anglea Haynes and Mashona Washington of the United States 6-3, 6-2.

Eva Hrdinova of the Czech Republic and partner Marie-Eve Pelletier of Canada, the number one seeds clenched their spot in the finals by beating the number four seeds, Leanne Baker and Surina DeBeer of Russia 7-5, 6-2.

The semifinals of the singles draw continue onto Saturday and the doubles final will conclude at the Lunsford Tennis Complex on the Troy Campus at 10 a.m.
