Troy's Maucher Falls in Finals
TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- Trojans Bastian Maucher falls in the finals at the 2007 Crimson Tide Fall Invitational.
Bastian Maucher, a sophomore native of Germany, came through with some big wins to advance him to the finals of the competition, but losing 6-2, 6-2, to Sammy Struyf of Alabama. In the first round of play, he defeated Mide Depietro of Michigan, 7-5, 6-3. Then, in the quarterfinals he beat Eliot Potvin of Georgia Tech, 7-6(5), 6-2. He overcame Scott Robertson of Jacksonville State, 7-6(5), 6-4 to secure his spot in the finals, but he was unable to become victorious.
Marko Zivkovic, a freshman of Serbia, lost in first round of play to Andrew Felsenthal of Alabama, 6-4, 6-1. He moved onto the Consolation rounds where he picked up a couple of wins but, lost in the semi-fianls. He had a bye the first round, but continued on to play an exciting match, defeating John Hollimon of UAB, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0(5). He advanced to the semifinal of the competition but lost to Doug Kenny of Georgia Tech, 6-2, 6-0.
Benjamin Chomette, a freshman out of France, showed up to play by defeating James Lloyd of Radford, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. He was knocked out early in the competition by Saketh Mynei of Alabama, 7-5, 6-1, to end his tournament hopes.
The Trojans travel next to the Auburn Classic set for November 16, 2007.
