Trojans in sixth place after day one

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Troy University women's golf team finished the first day of competition at the Troy University Women's Invitational in sixth place, trailing Jacksonville State by just nine shots heading into the final day.
The Trojans shot a 313, good for 25-over par, leaving them tied with Austin Peay for sixth on the leaderboard. The Trojans trail Jacksonville State (304) by nine shots, while Nicholls State (308) is in second place, followed by Evansville (309), Tennessee Tech (310) and Belmont (312).
Freshman Annelies Anderson was the highest finisher on the day for the Trojans, finishing at four-over par 76, just three shots behind the leader. Caley Branton also is just three shots behind the leader with her own four-over par 76 on Monday afternoon. The lead is held by Evansville's Maggie Wood at one-over par 73.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday, with the opening tee time set for 8:00 am at Montgomery's Arrowhead Country Club.
