Bares Claims Two Titles at UNF Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- Annabelle Bares wins the singles and doubles chnampionship at the 2007 University of North Florida Fall Invitational.
Annabelle Bares, the number one seed in her draw, had a bye the first round and continued onto the next round to defeat Kristi Kegerreis of Georgia Southern, 6-1, 6-0.
In the quarterfinals, Bares beat Katie Weaver of Steston 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals defeating Marina DeLuca from the University of Texas El Paso, 6-4, 6-3.
In the finals, Bares overcame the number two ranked Valentina Galbarini of Stetson 6-3, 7-5, to claim her first title of the tournament.
To claim her second title, Bares and her partner Leonie Guijt were the number one seed and proved why, by winning the doubles championship.
They defeated Fernanda Carrero and Lena Willi of Jacksonville University 8-1, then in the semifinals, beat Christine Caforio and Kristie Kegerreis from Georgia Southern 8-4. In the finals they defeated Ina Durcakova and Nataile Sanchez of UNF 8-4.
Stephanie Vieira, the number one seed in her draw, should be reconognized for making it to the finals, but losing to Ina Durcakova of UNF 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
She overcame Lindsey Mallory of Stetson 6-1, 7-5, then continued on to beat Anna Leonenko, also of Stetson, 7-5, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she beat Molly Maddox from Georgia Southern 6-1, 6-2 to claim her spot in the finals, where she was defeated.
This was UNF's second time hosting Fall Invitational, where 19 teams participated on the men's and women's side of the court.
