FLORENCE, S.C. -- Junior Jordy Hayden maintained his first-place tie in the individual standings Tuesday at the Raines Development Group Intercollegiate, but was eliminated on the first hole of a three-way playoff. The news was not so good for the Trojans, either, as they lost a one-stroke lead after 36 holes and finished second by a shot.
Hayden fired a two-over 74 during the final round to equal Jacksonville's Duncan Stewart and Stan Guererro of Old Dominion at three-under 213 (66-73-74). But the transfer from Meridian Community College drove into the rough on 18, and recovered onto the green in regulation before three-putting from 100 feet for bogey.
Brandon Anthony posted his second top 20 finish of the fall with a three-over 219 (75-71-73/t14th), while Michael McGrady fell into a tie for 24th after an 80 Tuesday. He finished with a five-over 221 (69-72-80).. Jake Broadhead shot a 76 in the final round to tie for 43rd at 225 (75-74-76), while Jay Harris rounded out the scoring at 10-over 226 (74-74-78/t50th)..
As a team, Troy shot 301 for a 54-hole score of 11-over 875, one stroke behind the Dolphins. After tournaments in back-to-back weeks, the Trojans now have the next month off before returning to action at the Austin Peay State Intercollegiate in Clarksville, Tenn., on Oct. 23-24..
