BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Heavy rains Friday night in the Bowling Green area forced the opening game of the Sun Belt Conference baseball series between Troy and Western Kentucky to be suspended in the bottom of the third inning.
The Trojans were trailing 6-2 after allowing six runs in the bottom of the first. They cut into the margin with two in their half of the third.
The first seven Hilltoppers reached base on a leadoff walk and six straight hits, including a bases-loaded double by Jordan Newton. Troy's runs came on an Ian Craze double and an Edgar Ramirez groundout.
Per Sun Belt Conference rules, the game will be picked up at its point of suspension -- with a runner on second with two outs in the bottom of the third. Play will start at 2 p.m. with the regularly-scheduled game to follow.
