Trojans Defeat Blue Raiders 5-2

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Troy played as a team on Sunday as it combined for ten hits and scored five runs to win 5-2 against Middle Tennessee.
Troy (26-32, 4-5 SBC) like it did on Saturday left eight runners on base but the difference today was that it was also able to score the necessary runs to clinch the win.
Middle Tennessee (17-32-1, 5-4) started the scoring early in the first when Melissa Weiland scored on an error by right fielder junior Amanda Ragans on a fly ball hit by Muriel Ledbetter, 1-0 Blue Raiders.
Troy evened the score in the top of the third on a double by Heidi Johnson which scored junior Brittany Krbec. Krbec also doubled to reach base.
The Trojans broke the game open in the fifth when they scored four runs on five hits. Juniors Brittany Krbec and Brooke Powell, freshman Heidi Johnson and sophomores Caurie Miller and Jessica Lyle each recorded hits in the inning. Miller, Lyle and Powell each drove in runs for Troy in the inning to put Troy up, 5-1.
Johnson, Miller and Lyle each went two for four with one RBI and Miller notched two RBIs.
Junior Laine Harcourt improved to 14-17 as she went seven innings allowed two runs on nine hits and seven strikeouts.
The Trojans will be back in action on Tuesday when it will host Birmingham Southern for its last non-conference game of the season. The doubleheader is set for 4 p.m. at the Trojan Softball Complex. Live stats will be available on www.troytrojans.com.
