Men's Golf Falls to Fifth on Final Day of Sun Belt Championship

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Trying to make up 10 shots in the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Championship, Troy's men's team pushed too hard and fired its highest round of the week, nine-over 297. The result was a drop two places from third to fifth.
Western Kentucky, South Alabama and North Texas went to a team playoff to determine the winner.
Michael McGrady and Brandon Anthony finished as the top Trojans at one-over 217, tying for seventh. McGrady posted 69, the team's low round of the tournament, in the final round to go with his 77 and 71 on the first two days. Anthony finished with a 75 after a pair of 71s.
Jay Harris also shot a 75 to finish tied for 16th at four-over 220 (71-74-75), while Donnie Parker totalled a 227 (73-76-78/30th). Steve Sims rounded out the scoring in a tie for 39th at at 232 (80-74-78).
"I was very pleased with our effort for our first Sun Belt Conference Championship," said Head Coach Matt Terry. "I was dissappointed with the way we finished, missing a playoff by four shots. We had the trophy in our hands. Overall, it was a positive that we on which we can build."
Freshman Michael McGrady was named All-Sun Belt Conference in a vote of the league's coaches.
