PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- The Troy women's golf team posted its best round of the Sun Belt Conference Championship on Wednesday, posting a score of 335. The Trojans, however, could not overcome the season-ending injury of their top player, Shauna McVeigh, and finished 10th among the 10 teams.
Denver won the team title by three shots over North Texas. The individual title went to a playoff.
Danielle Skipper posted Troy's best score of the tournament Wednesday, a four-over 76. She made the turn at just one-over 37 before finishing three-over on the second nine. She started bogey-bogey before making a long birdie putt on her third hole, No. 12. Standing one-over after 14 holes, she had three consecutive bogeys before a birdie on No. 9. For the tournament, Skipper fired rounds of 79, 82 and 76 to finish tied for 28th at 21-over 237.
Kristy Stephens finished 44th at 249 (87-81-81), while Katelyn Crosson was two shots back at 251 (83-90-78/45th). Sam Kreiger finished 49th at 306 (102-104-100), while Sarah Weldon rounded out the scoring in 50th at 317 (95-114-108).
"I am pleased with the fact that we played out best round in the final round," said Head Coach Matt Terry. "I am proud of the way we overcame adversity all spring. I am looking forward to getting back to work to get ready for next year."
