Trojans Split with Seminoles

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Troy University softball team spoiled some of the celebration for Florida State on senior night as it rebounded and took game two, 4-2 after dropping game one, 4-3.
Junior Stacey Dwyer doubled to start the scoring in the second inning of game two for Troy. With no outs and runners at first and second, Dwyer's hit scored junior Amanda Ragans from second, 1-0 Trojans (25-30, 3-3 SBC). Ragans came in to pinch run for junior Brittany Krbec, who walked to reach base.
FSU (33-22, 7-7 ACC) tied the game in the bottom of the second on a wild pitch with the bases loaded and two outs. Carly Brieske scored the run when she came home on the wild pitch from sophomore Angela Lopez.
The Trojans responded in the third however when junior Brooke Powell singled scoring sophomore Jessica Lyle from second to reclaim the lead for Troy. Then Krbec doubled bringing in sophomore Caurie Miller and Powell to extend the lead for Troy, 4-1.
Lopez only allowed two runs and six hits in seven innings of work as she improved to 10-9 on the season.
Troy lost the first game to the Seminoles 4-3 on a seventh inning rally. With the game tied at three, Whitney Buckmon hit up the middle for a base hit which scored LaShaun Davis from second to clinch the win for FSU.
Freshman Heidi Johnson hit her eighth home run of the season to start the scoring for Troy in the top of the second.Johnson ended the game two for four with one RBI and scored two of Troy's three runs in the game.
FSU would not stay behind the Trojans for long as Veronica Wootson hit her own solo home run to tie up the score. FSU then scored again with the bases loaded and two outs on a slow roller to second base. The hit by Natasha Jacob scored Michelle Snyder from third, 2-1 Seminoles.
The Seminoles scored again in the third on a sacrifice fly by Melissa Wood scoring Yuruby Alicart from third.
Powell tied the game in the sixth to put the Trojans back in the mix when she hit a two-run long ball. Powell's seventh homer of the season scored Johnson, who singled to reach base.
Powell ended the game two for two with two RBIs and scored one run.
Junior Laine Harcourt took the loss on the mound for Troy as she allowed four runs on ten hits in seven innings. Harcourt falls to 13-16 on the season.
Troy will travel to Murfreesboro, Tenn., on Saturday for its conference match-up with Middle Tennessee. The first pitch of Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Live stats will be available on www.troytrojans.com as provided by Middle Tennessee.
