Trojans Lose Close Games to Eagles

TROY, Ala. - The Trojans were unable to get a win in its first home game in a month as they dropped two games to Georgia Southern on Tuesday by scores of 6-3 and 3-1.
Troy (20-22) made a comeback in the first game but after forcing and eighth inning was unable to score the runs for the win.
Georgia Southern (17-20) started scoring in the first game in the third and Troy responded in the bottom of the inning tying the game, 1-1.
Then in the sixth, the Eagles took the lead again but Troy scored the tying run in the seventh to force another inning.
The Eagles scored four runs in the eighth to take the lead 6-2. Georgia Southern brought the runs in on three hits to get a solid lead going into the bottom of the inning.
Troy scored one run in the eighth but it was not enough as Troy had one run, one hit and left two on base to end the game, 6-3.
Heidi Johnson was the highlight offensively for Troy as she went thee for four with one RBI.
In game two, Georgia Southern again started things off early as the Eagles scored a run in the first.
Troy responded quickly however as junior Stacey Dwyer scored on a fielding error by the second baseman. Dwyer reached base after being hit by a pitch.
The Trojans would not score again but the Eagles hit a home run and singled to score a run in the seventh.
Sophomore Caurie Miller went three for three in game two for Troy to help them on offense.
Troy left a total of 21 runners on base against the Eagles and only notched 12 hits.
Sophomore Angela Lopez took the loss on the mound in game two as she went five innings, allowed two runs and six hits. Lopez falls to 8-6 on the season.
In game one, junior Laine Harcourt received the loss as she pitched eight innings allowed six runs and eight hits. Harcourt is now 10-11 on the season.
The Trojans will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a doubleheader with Samford. Live stats will be available through www.troytrojans.com as provided by Samford. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m. at Bulldog Field.
