Trojans Drop Two as Bats Continue to Struggle

MACON, Ga. - Troy dropped two games to South Florida and Mercer on Friday at the Mercer Nissan Invitational by a score of 2-0 it was unable to get anything going offensively.
For the day, Troy only had seven hits in two games and left a total of 11 runners on base, as it was unable to score a run in 14 innings.
Mercer (8-15) scored in the bottom of the fourth when C.J. Martin doubled bringing in Lindsay Talamantes and Kristin Talamantes, 2-0 Bears. L. Talamantes pinch ran for Katie Rosentreter, who singled and K. Talamantes singled on a bunt that rolled but stayed fair on the line.
Troy (17-20) had an opportunity to score in the fourth when sophomore Jessica Lyle tripled with no outs but no one was able to get the hit to bring her in. Lyle's triple was the only hit of the game for Troy.
Lyle ended the Mercer game one for two with a triple and walked once. It was her fifth triple of the season.
For the season she has a batting average of .333, 32 hits, six doubles, five triples and 10 RBIs. Lyle also has a slugging percentage of .500 and an on-base percentage of .434.
On the mound for Troy, junior Laine Harcourt took the loss against Mercer going six innings allowed four hits and two runs facing 24 batters.
In game one of the day, the Trojans lost 2-0 when South Florida hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the seventh.Christie Chapman and Danielle Urbanik hit USF's two home runs in the top of the seventh to give the Bulls (27-16) the lead.
The Trojans notched six hits but were unable to score runs as they left seven on base.
Junior Brittany Krbec and Lyle each went two for three in the game for Troy.
Sophomore Angela Lopez took the loss on the mound as she went seven innings allowed two runs, five hits and had eight strikeouts.
The Trojans will play Siena at noon on Saturday with the playoffs starting at 3 p.m. The playoffs will have the No. 1 seed playing the No. 4 at 3 p.m. and the No. 2 playing the No. 3 seed at 5 p.m.
