TROY, Ala. - Junior Stacey Dwyer went two for two on Wednesday to help lead the Trojans to a 6-0 win over Nicholls State.
Dwyer also had one RBI, three stolen bases and scored two runs for Troy (11-4) against the Colonels (4-9).
Today was one of our hardest contests of the year because of the emotions that we spent in the big win yesterday over Michigan,” head coach Melanie Davis said. I'm really proud of how the girls put the complete game together tonight and pulled off the win against a very good hitting and solid pitching Nicholls team.”
Troy started the game off strong as junior Angie Coteat scored on a single by sophomore Jessica Lyle after stealing second. Coteat scored three of the six runs for Troy and walked three times. Coteat also stole two bases and has now stolen 11 bases this season.
Troy extended its lead in the third when Coteat walked, Dwyer singled and then on a double steal they reached second and third. Coteat scored when Lyle flied out to the left field and Dwyer came in on a wild pitch by Jessica Barksdale.
In the fifth, Nicholls State loaded the bases when it walked Dwyer and Lyle, and then freshman Felicia Hammer was hit by a pitch. Dwyer then scored on a throwing error by the short stop to extend the Trojans lead, 4-0. Two outs later, freshman Kim Kelley, pinch running for Hammer, scored on a single by junior Amanda Ragans, 5-0.
Coteat walked in the sixth, reached second on a passed ball and then scored on a single by Dwyer.
Lyle also performed well for Troy as she went one for two with two RBI's and defensively had five put outs.
Junior Laine Harcourt recorded the win on the mound for Troy as she had six hits in seven innings, no runs and eight strikeouts. Harcourt improved to 4-2 on the season.
Troy will travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma over the weekend to play in the University of Oklahoma Tournament. Troy will play LSU and host Oklahoma on Saturday and Sunday in the round robin tournament. The first game for the Trojans is set for 12 p.m. on Saturday against LSU.
