Softball Earns Split with Florida A&M

Tallahassee, Fla. - Freshman Felicia Hammer hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to give Troy the win 6-4 in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday against Florida A&M.
Hammer went one for four with two RBIs in game two and hit her third home run of the season. Hammer's home run was her second multi-run home run this season.
Troy (7-4) started the scoring in game two when junior Brittany Krbec singled in the bottom of the second bringing in two runs for the Trojans. Then, junior Stacey Dwyer doubled to bring in Krbec and extend the lead for the Trojans, 3-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, FAMU (5-6) scored four runs after Troy committed an error to start the inning. FAMU had four hits, scored four runs to take over the lead, 4-3.
This team showed amazing heart and used a complete team effort in mounting the seventh inning comeback in hostile conditions,” head coach Melanie Davis said.
Junior Michelle Grinage came in to relieve sophomore Angela Lopez in the middle of the fourth and is credited with the win in that game. Grinage is now 2-1 on the season. In four innings, Grinage allowed no runs and two hits in 14 batters faced. Grinage took the loss in the first game against the Lady Rattlers, as she allowed two runs and four hits in one point two innings of work.
After leading 2-1, in game one with the Lady Rattlers, Troy gave up three hits in the bottom of the sixth allowing FAMU to make a come back and win 3-2.
In the sixth, Grinage allowed three hits and two runs, which put FAMU, up 3-2.
In the fifth, Krbec put the Trojans back on top, 2-1. Krbec singled, and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Next, Krbec stole third and then scored on a passed ball.
Powell singled in the fourth bringing in sophomore Jessica Lyle from second to tie the game, 1-1.
Junior Brooke Powell went two for three in games one and two and had an RBI in game one.
Florida A&M got on the scoreboard first in the third inning after Rhianna Green singled and then advanced to third on a single by Nakendra Jones. Green then stole home putting the Lady Rattlers up, 1-0.
Troy will have the rest of the week off until Sunday when it will play host to Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. at the Trojan Softball Complex.
