Troy Softball to Compete in Georgia Southern Tournament

Troy (3-1) joins host Georgia Southern, Charleston Southern, Louisville, and Maryland for the three-day tournament. Each school will play two games on the first day. On day two, each school will play two games in the morning with playoffs set to begin at 4 p.m. and continue on Sunday at 10 a.m.
Troy will turn to pitchers Laine Harcourt and Angela Lopez to continue the success that they had opening weekend. Harcourt pitched a perfect game against Alabama A&M to clinch the Trojan Classic tournament title. For the weekend, Harcourt had an ERA of 2.84 in three appearances, starting two and pitching two complete games with 11 strikeouts. Lopez finished the weekend with an ERA of 2.38 in 11.1 innings of work with 11 strikeouts.
Offensively, Troy will look to freshman Felicia Hammer and junior Brooke Powell, who each had big hits in the Trojan Classic for Troy.
In game two against Alabama A&M, Hammer hit her first collegiate home run to put the Trojans up, 5-0. Hammer finished the weekend six for 11 with one home run, four RBIs, one double and a batting average of .545. Hammer also had a slugging percentage of .909 and an on base percentage of .615. Defensively, she had 30 putouts and one assist.
Powell had four hits, two home runs, two runs, six RBIs, and one double. Powell has a batting average of 3.08, a slugging percentage of .846 and an on-base percentage of .357 over the weekend for the Trojans. With the game tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning against North Florida, junior Brooke Powell hit a three-run home run to give Troy the lead, 6-3. The home run was Powell's second of the tournament and the seventh of her career.
Troy will begin the Georgia Southern Tournament on Friday at Eagle Field when it plays Georgia Southern at 2 p.m. Troy will also play Charleston Southern on Friday at 6 p.m.
