Bares Advances to Semifinals

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Sophomore Annabelle Bares continues to win as she helps lead the Troy University tennis team at the ITA South Regionals.
Bares won her match with Monika Musilova of Bethune-Cookman, 6-2, 6-4, to advance to the quarterfinals of B singles. Bares then defeated Tapiwa Marobela of Florida State, who is seeded fourth in the bracket, 6-4, 7-6 (4) to advance to the semifinals. Bares will play Elena de Villiers of Mississippi State for a chance to play in the championship round of B singles at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
Bares and freshman Stephanie Vieira fell to Whitney Benik and Nina Suvak of Florida, who are seeded fourth in A doubles, 8-4.
Senior Claudia Strauss lost to Adrienne Elsberry of Georgia, 6-1, 6-3, in the second round of consolation play.
Senior Suzanne Jones fell to Villiers in the third round of B singles by scores of 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
Sophomore Caroline Jounia defeated Shaena Keefe, 6-3, 7-5, in the second round of B singles consolation. Jounia then defeated Florencia Torres of North Florida, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Jounia will face Bianca Svensson in the semifinal round on Sunday at 9 a.m.
The regional champions automatically qualify for the National Indoor Championships which will be held Nov. 2-5.
