Only Two Compete On Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Inclement weather delayed play at the ITA South Regionals at the University of Alabama on Thursday, allowing only two Trojans to play matches.
Due to inclement weather in Tuscaloosa on Thursday only the first round of A singles were played and all other matches were pushed back to Friday.
In A singles, sophomore Rawia Elsisi played a three hour and 15 minute match as she defeated Naoko Ueshima of Georgia, 7-5, 6-7 (4), 6-4. Elsisi will face Dariana Kozmina of Georgia State at 11:30 a.m. on Friday in the second round of A singles.
Junior Claudia Strauss fell to Whitney Benik, who is seeded 13th, 6-2, 6-1 in the A singles on Thursday. Strauss will play Sofia Ayala of Alabama in the A singles consolation at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
In the B singles, senior Suzanne Jones will play Ina Durcakova of North Florida at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
Freshman Stephanie Vieira will begin play for the Trojans at 10:30 a.m. on Friday when she faces Emma Stahl-Johansson of Georgia State.
Freshman Fabiana Gouivia will also play her match at 10:30 a.m. when she plays Jennifer Carati of Central Florida.
Sophomore Annabelle Bares will play Zoe Kent of Central Florida at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday.
Sophomore Caroline Jounia will play Kenza Belbacha of Central Florida at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
Junior Nicole Shaw will face Bianca Svensson of Alabama at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
In A doubles, Elsisi and Strauss will face Gabriela Duch and Shadisha Robinson of South Florida, who are the first seed at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Bares and Vieira will play Amanda Craddock and Whitney McCray of Georgia Tech, who are seeded eighth on Friday at 8 a.m.
Gouivia and Shaw will play Gulsah Esen and Nischa Maier-Knapp of UAB in the B doubles at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Also in the B doubles, Jones and Jounia will play Samantha Lange and Katherine Nowicki of Stetson at 8 a.m. on Friday.
The regional champions automatically qualify for the National Indoor Championships which will be held Nov. 2-5.
