TROY, Ala. - Troy University junior Irving Morales earned an invitation to the 2005 All-American Tennis Championship, Trojans head coach Eric Hayes announced on Thursday. The tournament will be held at the University of Tulsa.
Morales is one of 128 athletes to earn a qualifying bid. Those athletes will compete to fill the eight open places in the main draw, which will then pit the country's top 64 tennis players against each other. The qualifying rounds run October 3-5, with the main draw running October 6-9.
This is the second year in which Morales has been invited to the All-American Tennis Championship. In 2004 he advanced to the qualifying round of 64 by beating Jacopo Tezza, 7-5, 6-1. In the round of 64 he fell 7-6 (5), 7-5 to Jason Hazley.
This is a great opportunity for Irving to compete against the top players in the country,” Hayes said.
