Troy, Ala. - The Troy University men's tennis team has signed five athletes for the 2005-06 season Trojans head coach Eric Hayes announced on Tuesday.
Highlighting the class are Milos and Marko Kustudija, twins from Novisad, Serbia-Montenegro. As junior players, both Milos and Marko were ranked in the top 150 in the ITF's world rankings. They also were included as amateurs on the professional tennis rankings. Milos and Markos will join the Trojans in January 2006, in time to compete in the spring season.
Kenny Futch of Sebring, Fla. comes to TROY as one of the top 50 junior players in that state. Also joining the Trojans are two German athletes, Thomas Frank of Rheinstetten, Germany and Pasqual Duttlinger of Stutensee, Germany. Futch, Frank and Duttlinger will all come to TROY in the fall to compete in both the fall and spring seasons.
"After the bitter disappointment of coming one match short of the NCAA Tournament last season, this group of young men understand what must be done," said Hayes. We look forward to competing in the Sun Belt Conference with these five recruits and our returners from last year."
The Trojans return six total athletes, and three of their top six players, from the 2005 team, including two-time Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, Irving Morales. The 2005 team finished 9-9 overall and 6-1 in league play, falling 4-2 to UCF in the A-Sun Championship. In 2005-06 TROY will move from the A-Sun to the Sun Belt Conference.
