TROY, Ala. - The Troy University Softball Team defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Alabama A&M 12-0 and 7-0 in two games at the Lady Trojan Softball Complex on Tuesday. Troy's offensive output came to life as the Trojans rang up 19 runs on 21 hits while the Trojan pitching staff shutout the Lady Bulldogs over the two games.
Coach Melanie Davis was impressed with her teams performance in all phases of the game.
Once again hats off to our pitching staff as we were able to throw three returning starters from last year,” said Davis. Our defense was solid again and it was nice to see some well hit balls.”
In game one the Trojans defeated the Lady Bulldogs by scoring 12 runs on 12 hits while committing zero errors. Sophomore Stacey Dwyer hit her second home run of the season while going two for three with four runs batted in. Senior pitcher Kacie Flinn (4-2) pitched a one-hit shutout in five innings of work while striking out 11 A&M batters. The Lady Bulldogs' lone hit came on a bloop single in the top of the fifth.
I felt good about how I was pitching and was really excited about today's game,” said Flinn. I knew what was going on pitch-by-pitch and was a little disappointed in the fifth, but my team played a great game and it's easy to get the win when your team puts up 12 runs.”
Sophomore Laine Harcourt got the starting nod in game two of the double header. Through four innings of work Harcourt faced 16 batters giving up four hits and no runs while striking out four. Michelle Grinage finished out the game for the Trojans on the mound giving up two hits and striking out three while completing the shutout.
Sophomore Brittany Krbec hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the second to break the scoreless tie and put the Trojans up by two. Troy added three more runs in the inning to give them a 5-0 lead heading into the top of the third.
Troy added a couple more runs to make the final score 7-0. Harcourt picked up the win improving her record 2-1. The Trojans improved their overall record to 13-3 and their series record to 12-1 against Alabama A&M.
The Trojans will host Southeastern Conference power Alabama on Thursday. The Trojans are 0-7 lifetime against the Crimson Tide and are looking to set a trap for the visitors from Tuscaloosa.
It was very nice to put up the offensive numbers we did and hopefully that will carry over when Alabama comes to town on Thursday,” said Davis.
Game time is set for 5 p.m. and admission is free.
