The Troy University men's and women's tennis teams will each face an in-state foe on Wednesday, as the men play at No. 19 Auburn at and the women play at Alabama State.
The match against Auburn will be the men's team's fifth match of the season against a top-50 opponent, with the Tigers representing Troy's highest-ranking opponent this season. The Trojans are coming off a 6-1 loss at South Alabama on Feb. 3. The Tigers are coming off a 7-0 shut out of South Florida. Auburn holds a 10-2 advantage in the series history with Troy.
"This is the kind of competition we like to play," said Troy head coach Eric Hayes. "We're looking forward to the challenge, and it will be good for our athletes to compete against some of the best in the country."
The women's team will look to win its second-straight match. Troy defeated Arkansas State 4-3 on Friday.
"The women came from behind to top ASU," said Hayes. "We hope to carry through the momentum from that win."
The men's match begins at 1:30 at the Luther Tennis Complex in Auburn. The women play at 2 p.m. in Montgomery.
