The Lady Trojans Defeat the Lady Tigers of Grambling 18-0 at the Southeastern La. Lion Classic

HAMMOND, La. - The Lady Trojan Softball team defeated the Lady Tigers of Grambling 18-0 in five innings of play Saturday night. The Lady Trojan offense continued to impress as it rang up 14 hits, 15 RBI's and two home runs.
Troy took the early lead on Grambling in the bottom of the first when first baseman Bonnie Belin doubled to drive in Jenny Boyd. Catcher Sally Jones then singled to move Belin into scoring position. Sophomore Amanda Ragans drove in two runs when she tried to stretch a double into a triple but was thrown out at third. Troy held a 3-0 after the first inning.
In the bottom of the second inning the Lady Trojan offense exploded onto the Lady Tigers. Troy scored 13 runs on eight hits before Grambling could record the final out of the inning. Tamra Howren and Stacey Dwyer hit there first home runs of the season with both balls sailing over the fence in left-center.
Troy added two more runs in the bottom of the third to make the score 18-0. That wound up being the final score as the Lady Trojans improved their record to 5-1. Kacie Flinn got the win while striking out six to improve her record to 1-1. Laine Harcourt made an appearance in relief striking out three.
The Lady Trojans will face Southeastern La. Saturday night to complete the Lion Classic. With a win over Southeastern Troy would be tournament champions. Game time starts at 7:30 p.m.
