Jacksonville State Captures Troy Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. --Led by individual medalist Daniel Willett and two others in the top 16, Jacksonville State captured the Second Annual Troy Invitational Tuesday at Lagoon Park Golf Course. The Gamecocks equalled the host Trojans and Birmingham Southern for the best rounds of the day, even-par 288.
Willett, the second-round leader at eight-under par after Monday carded the best round of the day Tuesday, a five-under 67. He won by five strokes over Justin Elliott of Southern Miss and Jeffrey Krogsgard of Birmingham Southern, who finished tied for second at eight-under 208.
Troy's Cardinal team climbed up one notch to third (864/291-285-288) with its final round score. The Trojans jumped over Eastern Kentucky, whose eight-over 296 dropped it to fifth. The Silver team stayed at the bottom of the 11-team field with a 308 on Tuesday (302-310-308/920).
The Cardinal team was paced by Michael McGrady, who tied for seven at two-under 214 (71-69-74). He was followed by Jay Harris at 216 (t12th/72-69-75) and Brandon Anthony at 219 (75-72-72). Donnie Parker tied for 32nd at 223 (80-72-71), while Jake Brodhead rounded out the Cardinal team in a tie for 37th at 224 (76-77-71).
The Silver team was led by Steve Sims, who tied for 46th at 228 (74-79-75). David Rasco placed 52nd at 230 (74-76-80), while Paul Amess tied for 55th at 232 (77-79-76). Brad Martin was 59th at 235 (77-76-82), while Wes Parker was 60th at 237 (79-81-80).
Finally, Keith Crowley played the field as an individual. He is tied for 29th at 222 (75-73-74).
The tournament wrapped up the Trojans' fall season.
