The team will compete at the Pan American Championship in Guatemala City, Guatemala that will be held from Nov. 26th thru Dec. 4th. The Pan American Championship serves as a qualifier for both the 2006 World Championship as well as the 2007 Pan American Games.
It's going to be a great honor to wear my country's name on my chest in Guatemala. It's something that I've always wanted since I was ten years old and it's great to be one of the few to be selected among all of the great softball athletes in Canada,” Howren said.
Howren played at Troy four years before moving into her current position with the softball program. In 2005, Howren hit 23 home runs and 64 RBIs and had a .364 batting average for the Trojans. Howren also led the team in slugging percentage at .775. Defensively for Troy, Howren had 535 putouts, 40 assists and caught 23 stealing base.
I am extremely proud to have one of my former athletes achieve such a high honor. I am equally happy to see a young person achieve their lifelong goal of playing for their country's national team,” head coach Melanie Davis said. Tamra is a very deserving and talented young athlete whose tremendous work ethic has helped bring her to the greatest of honors.”
There were 17 athletes selected to represent Canada on the Canadian National softball team.
