Women's Golf Moves Up One to Ninth at Chris Banister Gamecock Classic

GADSDEN -- Shauna McVeigh posted a final-round 77 Monday afternoon in the final round of the Chris Banister Gamecock Classic to earn her second straight Top 10 finish. She tied for seventh at 14-over 220 in the two-day, 54-hole event at Silver Lakes Country Club. As a team, the Trojans moved up one spot over the final 18 holes, finishing ninth in the 12-team field at 988.
McVeigh posted rounds of 79, 74 and 77 for her final score of 230. She was tied for 20th after the first round and tied for 10th after the second.
Host Jacksonville State rallied for a two-stroke win in the team competition with a final-round score of 306 and a 54-hole score of 923. Gamecock Mercedes Huarte finished at one-under 215 to claim the individual crown.
Katelyn Crosson was second for the Trojans, tying for 36th place at 250 (83-86-81). Kristy Stephens turned in her best round of the tournament -- an 80 -- to move into a tie for 40th at 252 (84-88-80), while Danielle Skipper dropped to a tie for 45th at 256 (85-86-85).
Sam Kreiger rounded out the Troy contingent with a score of 319. She placed 67th with scores of 112-100-107.
The Trojans wrap up their fall schedule Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 when they host the Troy University Women's Invitational in Montgomery. The two-day event will take place at the Lagoon Park Golf Club.
