Troy Softball Picked to Finish Fourth in A-Sun, Howren Picked Preseason All Conference

The Troy University Softball team was picked to finish fourth in both the preseason Atlantic Sun Coaches and Media poll.
Both the coaches poll and the media poll have Florida Atlantic in the top spot, followed by Central Florida in second and Stetson in third. Florida Atlantic was also chosen to win the conference tournament. Mercer rounds out the top five with Gardner-Webb coming in sixth.
Troy head coach Melanie Davis believes Florida Atlantic is right where they should be.
Our hats are off to FAU,” said Davis. Until someone knocks them off they are still the number one team from last year and they are certainly deserve the number one spot.”
Senior Catcher Tamra Howren was also selected to the preseason all-conference team for the second year in a row. Howren is coming off of a successful junior season which saw her bat.342, drive in 45 RBI's and hit 12 home runs, a Troy record. She also made last year's all conference team as well last year's all tournament team.
I'm very proud of Tamra, she is very deserving of this honor,” said Davis. We look for her to play a big role on the team this season.”
Troy opens up their 2005 season on Tuesday, Feb. 8th in a double-header against Samford at 3 p.m.
