Troy, Ala. - The Troy University women's tennis team will add Rawia and Shamiaa Seif, sisters from Cairo, Egypt, to its roster for the 2005 spring season.
Both Rawia, 18, and Shamiaa, 20, have been ranked in the International Tennis Federation world rankings as junior tennis players. As an amateur, Rawia ranked in the top 800 in the world in the WTA computer rankings. Rawia also played for Egypt on the Federation Cup team.
Rawia enters Troy as a freshman. Shamiaa will be transferring from the University of Cairo.
"We're very fortunate to get two players of this caliber to join the team mid-year," said Troy head tennis coach Eric Hayes. "I think it's the success we had as a team last season that allows us to pick up players of this level. We're very excited to welcome them to the team."
Troy's tennis season opens with an exhibition game at AUM on Jan. 19. The regular season opens at South Alabama on Jan. 28.
