McVeigh claims second top-10 finish; Trojans place sixth at Gamecock Classic

McVeigh, a native of County Down, Northern Ireland, had a two-day total of 154 on the 5,995-yard Silver Lakes Golf Course to tie team champion East Tennessee State's Natalia Giraldo for fifth place in the 68-player field. McVeigh, a transfer from Bethune-Cookman, finished eighth in the Trojans first match of the fall season on Sept. 21.
The Trojans improved on Monday's first-round score by 22 strokes with a team score of 321 on Tuesday to climb two spots after the opening round with a two-day total of 664. Troy passed Tennessee Tech and Belmont in the final round and finished just six shots behind South Alabama for fifth place. ETSU claimed the team title with a two-round total of 614. Host Jacksonville State finished second with a team score of 622.
Jacksonville State's Marilen F. Ruiz claimed medalist honors after her 36-hole total of 150 (76-74) put her in a playoff with ETSU's Ashley Barton. Ruiz claimed the title on the first playoff hole.
Individually for the Trojans, sophomore Vicki Power (83-82) tied for 20th place after shooting a 165 over 36 holes, while junior Katelyn Crosson (89-81) shot a 170 to tie for 34th. Rounding out the field for Troy was freshman Stephanie Perez (94-81-175) in 48th and sophomore Kristy Stephens (98-84-182) in 56th.
