Meet the Trojans - Med Willis | Facility Upgrade
TROY, Ala. – With the 2013 Troy softball season fast approaching, TroyTrojans.com will introduce you to a newcomer from the squad every week, leading up to the season opener in February.
Today's newcomer is Becca Hartley. Hartley comes to Troy after playing her high school ball at Charles Henderson. During her senior season with the Trojans, Hartley hit .493 with six home runs and 40 RBI, earning all-state and Super 12 honors. The shortstop was named to the Troy Messenger all-county team and also earned the team offensive award during her senior season. In the circle, Hartley was just as strong. She pitched a one-hitter against Ashford High in the postseason last year to help her team advance to the state tournament for the first time in nine years. Hartley was twice named FAC Female Athlete of the Year.
1. What is the best thing you have experienced at college so far, whether academically or athletically?
"The best thing I have experienced so far is the responsibility of independence. The transition has allowed me to learn how to manage my time and decide what things are really important. I enjoy spending so much time with my teammates as we continue to grow together."
2. Why did you decide to come to Troy?
"I believe that the family-oriented environment I felt as a recruit affected my decision to become a Trojan. Also since Troy is where I grew up, I knew it would be easier for my family to support this program and me."
3. How different is playing/training in college compared to high school?
"Playing in college is definitely more demanding of my time and effort. However, I know I have already become a better player. I learned early from the upper classmen that we do everything right here at Troy. I believe a major difference is that everyone has the same goal, which is to get better everyday and WIN! With the same mentality, this team is going to accomplish big things."
4. The softball team is getting a new facility built, how is this going to impact the team in the future?
"This facility will provide a major advantage for this program. I am looking forward to the opportunities I will have to get better and work on my own at any time."
5. What are you most looking forward to this spring?
"This spring I am most looking forward to playing this high level of competition consistently. It is going to make me a much better player. The team chemistry is already showing, and we are going to have so much fun together on and off the field."
