Meet the Trojans - Becca Hartley | Facility Upgrade
TROY, Ala. – With the 2013 Troy softball season fast approaching, TroyTrojans.com will introduce you to a newcomer from the squad every week, leading up to the season opener in February.
Our next newcomer is Mackenzie Kayler. The Roswell, Ga., native joins Troy after playing for Lassiter High School for the past four seasons. Kayler was tremendous for the Trojans, earning 5A Fastpitch Player of the Year honors in 2013, as well as first team all-region, all-county and all-state honors. Her stats speak for themselves, as she hit .396 with 13 doubles and 29 RBI during her final season. As a pitcher, she went 23-7-1 with 109 strikeouts and a 1.99 ERA as a senior. A two-sport athlete, Kayler also played basketball in high school, earning two all-region honors. Kayler was also a finalist for the USA Today National Scholar Athlete award in 2013.
1. Why did you choose Troy?
"I chose Troy, because I fell in love with the beautiful campus and the atmosphere of the university. Also, I really liked the personalities of the girls on the team, and felt I would fit in well."
2. How has the transition been between high school and college?
"The transition has been fairly easy for me. I had trouble at first navigating around Troy, since I am from out of state, but now I know my way around and feel very comfortable."
3. What is the main thing you have learned during this fall season?
"I have learned that you have to have a competitive and positive attitude in every aspect of your game (practices and games) in order to succeed."
4. Softball is about to get a new facility, how is that going to impact the team?
"It is going to impact our team tremendously, because we will be able to practice in any weather condition. Also, it will attract even more people to our home games, as well as add to Troy's beautiful campus."
5. What are your goals for the season?
"I plan to develop my skills as a pitcher and hitter to help my team compete at a high level and win games."
6. When you finish college what would you like to do?
"I would like to get an exciting and fun job with my marketing degree, and eventually get married and have children."
